Lip Lift (Lip Lift)

Lip lift is a surgical procedure performed to make the lips look fuller, younger and more attractive.
This aesthetic procedure is preferred especially if the distance between the upper lip and nose is long, the lips appear thin and the lips become thinner with age.
Unlike temporary applications such as lip lift, lip fillers or botox, it is a surgical intervention that offers permanent results.

Causes of Lip Lift

Lip lift is a procedure that is preferred due to aesthetic concerns and provides a more balanced appearance of facial contours.
Common reasons for lip lift are as follows:

  • Long Lip-Nose Distance: The excessive distance between the nose and the upper lip can disrupt the aesthetic proportions of the face.
With the lip lift procedure, this distance is shortened and the upper part of the lips is made prominent.
  • Thin Lips A thin upper lip can negatively affect a person’s facial expression.
Lip lift helps the lips look fuller and more prominent.
  • Signs of Aging: Loss of volume, sagging and thinning of the lips may occur with aging.
Lip lifting gives a younger appearance by eliminating the signs of aging.

Lip Lift Types

Lip lift can be performed with different methods according to the patient’s needs and lip structure.
The most common lip lift techniques are as follows:

1. Bullhorn Lip Lift

This is the most commonly used lip lift technique.
By making a bull horn-shaped incision in the skin just below the upper lip, excess skin is removed and the lip is lifted upwards.
In this way, the lip becomes fuller and more prominent.
Since the incision is made in the natural fold under the nose, the surgical scar is usually not noticeable.

2. Gullwing Lip Lift

In this method, the skin of the lips is lifted and excess skin is removed by making an incision just above the upper border of the upper lip (vermilion edge).
This procedure, which makes the lip line more prominent, is suitable for people with a thin lip structure.

3. Corner Lip Lift

Corner lip lift is applied in cases where the edges of the lips sag downwards.
The corners of the lips are lifted up with small incisions made on the edges of the lips.
This procedure gives the facial expression a more energetic and lively appearance.

Preparation Before Lip Lift

Before lip lift surgery, the patient’s expectations and lip structure are evaluated in detail.
The doctor creates the surgery plan by determining the most suitable lip shape for the patient’s facial proportions.
Things to consider before surgery:

  • Medication Use: Blood thinners, vitamin supplements and herbal products should be stopped at least one week before surgery.
  • Smoking and Alcohol: Smoking and alcohol use may adversely affect the healing process after surgery.
Therefore, it is recommended to stop smoking and drinking alcohol before surgery.

How is Lip Lift Surgery Performed?

Lip lift surgery is a procedure that is usually performed under local anesthesia and takes an average of 30-60 minutes.
During the surgery, the doctor makes an appropriate incision along the lip line or under the nose to remove excess skin and lift the lip upwards.
Stitches are placed appropriately at the incision site and carefully monitored throughout the healing process.

Recovery Process After Lip Lift

The healing process after lip lift surgery is usually fast.
Points to be considered after the procedure:

  • First Days There may be swelling and slight bruising in the lip area for the first few days after surgery.
Applying a cold compress during this period helps to reduce swelling.
  • Removal of Stitches: Stitches are usually removed 5-7 days after surgery or dissolve spontaneously.
  • Eating and Drinking: During the healing process, hard and hot foods that can damage the lip should be avoided.
Soft and room temperature foods should be preferred.
  • Lip Movements: It is recommended to avoid excessive lip movements in the first weeks.
Especially activities that may cause the lips to stretch should be avoided.

Risks and Side Effects of Lip Lift Surgery

As with any surgical procedure, lip lift surgery may have some risks and side effects:

  • Infection There is a risk of infection at the surgical site, so the doctor’s care instructions should be followed.
  • Bleeding and Swelling: Mild bleeding and swelling may occur after surgery.
These effects usually resolve spontaneously within a few days.
  • Stitch Scars: A slight scar may remain at the incision site, but this scar is usually hidden in the nasal fold and becomes less prominent over time.
